When I first started blogging, I thought growing traffic would take years and an impossible amount of hustle. It doesn’t have to. If you’re a new blogger looking for organic traffic without relying solely on Google or social media algorithms, let me introduce you to my not so secret weapon—Pinterest. 😉
Pinterest is hands down one of the most powerful platforms for driving traffic and building an audience. It benefits businesses and creators who want long-term growth. This can be achieved without constantly being glued to their screens 24/7.
Picture this: A new mama is scrolling through Pinterest late at night, searching for tips on launching her dream blog, planning a baby-friendly getaway, or finally figuring out her content strategy. And there you are, front and centre. Your pins are beautiful, grab her attention, speak to her needs, and gently guide her to your site, where she finds value, connection, and answers she can trust. Now that’s the power of intentional pinning.
Why I Chose Pinterest as My Main Traffic Source
As a busy mom-to-be (and side-hustling content creator), I needed a platform that:
- Didn’t require constant posting or dancing on video
- Had long-term searchability
- Was visually driven and evergreen
Pinterest is a visual search engine, not a social media app, which means content on Pinterest can live for months and even years. That’s huge for new bloggers who don’t yet have a ton of domain authority on Google.
My 5 Pinterest Growth Strategy

1. Optimise your Pinterest Profile
First things first, your profile creates your first impression. Make sure your bio clearly says who you help. Explain how you help them.
Include keywords that speak directly to your audience and end with a call to action that invites them to visit your site. For instance:
- Display name (e.g., “Faith + Lifestyle Blogger | Pregnancy, Travel & Blogging Tips”)
- Bio (e.g., “Helping women grow their faith, navigate pregnancy & launch creative blogs with heart.”)
- Boards (keyword-rich and niche-specific) curating trending and evergreen topics.
Make your Pinterest a reflection of your blog categories.
2. Created SEO-Optimised Boards
Curate boards that highlight both trending and evergreen topics. Each board is like its own mini search engine. I personally created 10-15 boards related to my content pillars: Faith in Pregnancy, Blogging for Beginners. Passive Income Ideas, Bump-Friendly Travel, Pinterest Marketing Tips.
Write board descriptions that naturally include keywords while clearly explaining how your board helps or what value it offers. Think of it as a mini pitch. What problem does this board solve, and why should someone follow it?
3. Design Click-Worthy Pins Using Canva
I batch-designed 5–10 pins per blog post using Canva templates (in my brand colors).
My best-performing pins have:
- Clear headlines (with keywords!)
- Subtle call-to-action (like “Read more” )
- Easy to read fonts on mobile
You want to stand out by being different on the platform while still seeing what your ideal audience is pinning.
I always recommend vertical pins (1000 x 1500 px), and don’t overcrowd your design.
4. Used Tailwind for Smart Scheduling
Consistency is key and pintererst rewards consistency. I use Tailwind to schedule pins throughout the week so my content stays active even when I’m offline or in full nesting mode. This will also save you time by batching your designs.
I would recommend you schedule about:
- 5–10 pins per day
- Spread across relevant boards and group boards (where allowed)
The amount doesn’t matter as much as the consistency does!
5. Prioritized Fresh Content
Pinterest loves fresh pins even if they link to the same blog post. Instead of recycling old pins, create updated versions, you can use canva .So I aim to:
- Create new pins weekly
- Add new blog posts consistently (even just 2x/month is fine!)
- Mix in idea pins and seasonal content when relevant
Since starting this strategy, my Pinterest impressions grew by 250%, and traffic to my blog doubled within 90 days.
Pinterest Works Even if You’re Just Starting
If you’re just starting your blogging journey and feeling overwhelmed by traffic goals and algorithms, let me reassure you, Pinterest can be your best-kept secret.
It’s not about going viral overnight. It’s about steady, intentional growth that builds over time. Think of Pinterest as your quiet but powerful content engine—working for you even when you’re not online.
Here are a few tips that actually moved the needle for me:
✨ Use keywords everywhere – From your pin titles and descriptions to your board names and profile bio, make your content searchable.
✨ Focus on evergreen, helpful content – Viral pins are nice, but content that solves real problems lasts much longer.
✨ Pin your own content first – Prioritize driving traffic to your blog, then repin quality content from others to round things out.
✨ Check your analytics regularly – Even just once a month, look at what’s working so you can do more of it (and let go of what’s not).
Pinterest traffic is a slow burn, but if you stick with it, it adds up without burning you out.
